When the weather is warm, the last thing you want to see is your children staring at a screen. Originally founded by Riccardi’s father, Giuseppe, in 1984, GR Pools specializes in renovating, rejuvenating and building concrete pools using marbelite, a specialized plaster used to coat pools. This family owned and operated business, which is now led by Riccardi and his brother Tony, is one of the few genuine marbelite companies in Ontario, and with that distinction comes a passion for their product. “Marbelite is in our blood,” he says. “I breathe and live this business until three or four in the morning. If there is a single problem I won’t let it go.”

Pools are not just for family time, either. They’re a great source of exercise and provide the foundation for summer socials, like barbecues or neighbourhood gatherings. It can also be a great escape after a long week. “In the past, people used to go to cottages, but now they’re putting their cottage in their backyard,” says Riccardi. It’s like a mini resort that’s 30 seconds away.
While the weather may be a bit nippy now, it’s the perfect time to start planning for the summer. “I like to meet the person first and find out their needs,” says Riccardi. “Then I can gear them towards a simple or intricate pool.”
