Val Cappelli serves up the finest in Italian delights.

Just as an artist gazes at his muse to inspire his masterworks, Val Cappelli looks to his dedicated clientele base to continue doing what he does best: artistic cakes, creative desserts and sumptuous delicacies made fresh every day at The Big Cannoli.

“My customers know that when they request a pick-up time, what they ask for is always made that day – and on time,” explains Cappelli. With his mom, Gina, and son, Michael, working with him, Cappelli ensures that with every bite, The Big Cannoli will delight. That’s because the family uses time-honoured recipes passed on from dear and knowledgeable friends of the family.

“The cannoli are always the most popular, but as of lately, the inis and bombe have really taken off,” says Cappelli. He describes the traditional Sicilian delight inis as a brioche bun stuffed with creamy ricotta and chocolate chips, then fried to perfection. Bombe are crispy doughnut balls that explode with the flavour of your choice: nutella, vanilla, limoncello or chocolate.

For the month of February, Cappelli offers heart-shaped zeppole – fritters sprinkled with powdered sugar, oozing with cream and topped with fruit. Not to worry, these lip-smacking pastries made to celebrate St. Joseph’s Day are baked at The Big Cannoli, because in 1997, Cappelli pioneered the formula to bake instead of fry them.

And with a new diabetic line debuting this month, Cappelli guarantees that each and everyone of his clients can enjoy a variety of cookies, cannoli, bombe and more, all made in-house.
