Q1: What steps do you and your staff take for a colour and cut makeover on a client?
Grossi: The first step is listening to the client’s ideas for the look they would like to achieve. Secondly, we make suggestions to improve or add to the idea and thirdly, we would reaffirm to the client what we (the stylists) understand the final goal to be so we are on the same page.
Q2: How do you correct damaged hair after a home colouring disaster?
Grossi: I have a method that I know not all salons use. When you get a bad hair colour, some of that colour has to be removed first and then replaced. A gentler way to remove the colour is to use something we call a shampoo cocktail – a shampoo with bleach in it – and it kindly and slowly removes the original ‘bad colour’ so you can replace it with good colour. You can’t always expect good results by just putting one coat of colour on top of another.
Q3: What are some tips to keep your hair stylish during the dreaded ‘in-between’ stage?
Grossi: A lot of my clients go through this. The best tip I can give is to trim your hair once every eight weeks. A lot of people think that just by growing it out is going to be the way to go. I find when people do that they hate it so much and they never receive the result they originally wanted. Make sure your hair has enough time to grow while having a shape so it doesn’t overgrow.
