Did you Know?

1. The Congo River is the only one in the world that flows both north and south of the equator – crossing over twice! We’re on the fence with this one, but some might call that indecisive.
2. What did our corneas do to deserve the callous treatment from our blood? It’s the only part of our body that it selfishly chooses not to supply its services to. The cornea in the eye survives from oxygen in the air instead. How can you do that to your own flesh and blood?
3. Dear Narcissists,
All humans spent about half an hour as a single cell. That means you were once way smaller than a coffee bean. XYXY
4. One-tenth of a calorie is what you consume every time you lick a stamp. The solution? Eat-mail … we mean, e-mail.
5. Before popular British reggae band UB40 released its hit song “Red Red Wine,” they could barely afford a shot of whiskey, let alone a bottle of Merlot. In fact, they were standing in line for the Unemployment Benefit Form 40 when they came up with the band name.
6. As if ice hockey wasn’t dangerous enough, somebody had to think of making an underwater version. Players wear fins to enhance speed in a game where victory is gained by the team that scores the most goals – underwater. Masks and snorkels help lessen the fear of drowning, while a foot-long stick helps with scoring. This covert sport is quickly becoming an underwater phenomenon.
7. Ah, the dreaded Monday just got worse. According to German researchers, the risk of heart attack is highest on this wicked weekday. Here’s hoping that Steve Carell received the memo.
8. Thanks India, for being the only country in the world that has a Bill of Rights for Cows. That means no cow tipping! You probably shouldn’t do that anywhere, though. It’s just not nice.
9. After spending hours working on a computer, look at a blank piece of white paper. It will probably appear pink. Just try not to get caught doing this. Co-workers may start spreading rumors, “Did you see Sarah staring at a blank piece of paper today?” Or worse, your boss could fire you, “You’re recent lack of productivity leaves me with no choice.”
10. Bees don’t live forever, but apparently their honey does – and it’s becoming all the buzz. Archeologists who tasted honey found in the tombs of Egyptian pharaohs found it to be edible. They must have been REALLY hungry that day …
11. Think you’re something special just because you have blue eyes? OK fine, maybe you are. In 2008, a scientific team at the University of Copenhagen claimed that people with baby blues have a single common ancestor, suggesting that we all started off with brown eyes. Perhaps green originated from envy?
Some of life’s biggest decisions are made in a heart beat. In a lifespan of 70 years, a heart beats around two-and-a-half billion times. Did you know that you have more than two-and-a-half billion chances to make the world a better place? No joke!
