Toronto transformed into Hollywood this past September as hundreds of celebrities filled the streets of the largest city in Canada during the 35th annual movie movement Toronto International Film Festival. For 10 star-studded days, Yorkville, King Street West and the downtown core of Toronto exploded with action as enthusiastic crowds gathered around the legendary actors and filmmakers that revealed their latest projects.
At sundown, A-list celebrities scoured the city’s hot spots to celebrate their films and mingle with fans. The Roosevelt Room Supper Club was a staple stop for famous film stars like Edward Norton, Robert De Niro, Hayden Christensen, David Schwimmer, Milla Jovovich and a bevy of others who were seen socializing at the sophisticated site.
To kick off the 10 days of TIFF, web portal citylifeTV.ca coalesced with emerging Canadian talent at a rooftop event hosted by Absolut Vodka. The night was designed to give budding artists a platform to blossom. Another major highlight was Alliance Films’ TIFF celebration at the trendy lounge South of Temperance. Among the celebrities that graced the red carpet were Juliette Lewis (Conviction), the legendary Lennox Louis, Jamie Kennedy (Ghost Whisperer), Greg Bryk (Immortals), Being Erica’s Erin Karpluk, Cesar Milan (The Dog Whisperer) and of course, Alliance Films’ chairman Victor Loewy. “It’s fantastic. It’s nice to open up our city to all the people around the world,” Bryk tells citylifeTV.ca.
The fashion capital of Canada and its celebrated film festival welcomed other famous faces, such as James Franco, Nicole Kidman, Ben Affleck, Megan Fox and Blake Lively. Oscar buzz palpitated with director Danny Boyle’s 127 Hours, Black Swan, starring Natalie Portman; Stone (Robert De Niro, Milla Jovovich, Edward Norton); Biutiful with Javier Bardem, and Rabbit Hole with Nicole Kidman. The TIFF films to make the most noise were The King’s Speech – a historical royal drama named the festival’s fan favourite – and Incendies, a moving story about love and war that won TIFF’s Best Canadian Film. “This year’s TIFF has been outstanding on all levels. I had two films and ran into so many amazing people that I have been blessed to work with over the years. My specific highlight however, was the premiere and after-party for Incendies,” says the movie’s star, actor Allen Altman.
